I had some of the same problems with hostmon and tweaked the
hostmon-client.linux file myself.  Disclaimer: I'm an amateur perl-guy
at best and really only touched the netstat portion.  You might use my
work as a launching point for yourself (I fixed the NetIErr problem, see
attached).
